Site info
On this site I'm sharing my favorite songs, divided into decades and cultural eras. If you’re interested, you can check some of them out.
··· HOW?
This site provides links to text files with Spotify URLs. You can copy and paste the contents into an empty Spotify playlist. For example: This text file is a 2020s one. Select all text, copy it, create an empty Spotify list and enter 'Ctrl + V'. That's all.

This method is desktop-only, though. And because some songs aren't available on Spotify (not at all, neither white nor grey; I don't remove greyed out files btw), those text files aren't complete.

I've also tried a platform-independent way, featuring CSV files. Sadly it didn't work out. Even very simple and perfectly spelled titles were hard to import.
··· WHY CREATING THIS SITE?
  • A kind of an archive function.
  • Personal expression; real life offers limited opportunities for that. It has to do partly with the environment and partly with my age.
  • Usability on music boards and microblogs (like Bluesky): I can put a link in a profile, signature or post/reply. Without a central place to store titles, I would end up spamming too many YouTube links to get something off my chest.
··· ABOUT MYSELF / ME & MUSIC IN THE PAST
Online I go by Christina; it's part of my legal name (I keep my given name for myself). I was born in 1981 and I'm from the Netherlands. The 'xy' in the site URL refers to the generation x/y cusp.

In mid-1991 I started listening to contemporary music. Most of the music I played was dance, or at least very danceable. On this page you can read more about me & music in the past. Playlists are included.
··· TYPES OF MUSIC
It can be any genre, as long as I like it enough. There has to be that certain X-factor. The songs on this site range from ambient to heavy rock, and can be either mainstream or underground - often somewhere in between.

What I do struggle with, though, is connecting with heavily auto-tuned songs that only last around 2:30; typical current CHR radio music. I'm against AI generated songs as well. Even in fully electronic music, I tend to look for some kind of human element beneath the surface.
··· LYRICS, ALBUMS
The music comes before the lyrics (that hasn't changed, even after exploring many more genres), and I tend to listen 'track-based'. Both are probably remains of my dance years. Dance music was - and often still is - released as singles rather than albums.
··· SOURCES
Common sources for finding music: preferably relatively old-fashioned, human curated ones. Internet radio, Mixcloud streams, music podcasts, discussion boards, reviews, homemade playlists on streaming services, etc.
··· SOCIALS/STREAMING SERVICES
There are profiles on many sites and services. A couple of them: Bluesky and MusicMeter (the Dutch version of 'Rate Your Music'). And there are some files on YouTube.

And music streaming services? I'm on Spotify, but not publicly anymore. I was a bit fed up with the followers/social aspect. And, resulting from that, the need to keep things like the track order neat (= a lot of work). That's why I share text files instead of direct links to the original playlists.

In the (recent) past I shared the profile openly, though. Some of the icons look like a kind of a puzzle; have fun with the screenshots. :)
