Site info
On this site I'm sharing my favorite songs. If you’re interested, you can check some of them out. Below you can find more information.
··· SOME BASICS ABOUT MYSELF
Online I go by Christina; it's part of my given name. I was born in 1981 (referring to the 'xy' in the URL) and I come from The Netherlands.
··· PERSONAL MUSICAL TIMELINE
The BITD pages show a 'once played' timeline. Background information and clickable files are included, to give extra context (on the lower part of the pages) - But you may also call it the navel-gazing section. ;)
- BITD 1: 1991-1993 - Early days of enjoying contemporary music
- BITD 2: 1993-1998 - High school years, happy-go-lucky music
- BITD 3: 1998-2000 - Landline internet, taste like the previous era
- BITD 4: 2000-2004 - Broadband internet, internet radio, groovy house
- BITD 5: 2005-2007 - Messy inbetween era, late dance years
- BITD 6: 2008-2010 - FIP, Nova, Lefto, etc. influences
- BITD 7: 2011-2014 - Similar to the previous era, just more busy
- BITD 8: Since 2015 - Current taste
··· WHY CREATING THIS SITE?
- A kind of an archive function.
- Personal expression; real life offers limited opportunities for that. It has partly to do with the environment and partly with age; It's relatively difficult when you’re in your mid-forties (when it comes to that, being much younger ór older is better).
- Usability on music boards and microblogs (like Bluesky): I can put a link in a profile, signature or post/reply. Without a central place to store titles, I would end up spamming too many YouTube links to get something off my chest.
··· THIS VS. STREAMING SERVICES
For some years, Spotify was the main place for these things. There's still an account; neatly updated. And most pages on this site contain subtle links to matching Spotify playlists. But it's got an increasingly dark side, a lot of songs are missing, and its future is uncertain. Sadly, alternatives like Deezer are technically worse.
Anyway: this site ended up being the main place where titles are shared, while Spotify is second. If you're on another service like Tidal, Qobuz, or Deezer, you can (using a bit of help from Soundiiz, ChatGPT, and Excel) turn them into CSV files, and import the lists into your favourite streaming service - if they spark your interest.

··· TYPES OF MUSIC
It can be any genre, as long as I like it enough. There has to be that certain X-factor. The songs on this site range from ambient to heavy rock, and can be either mainstream or underground - often somewhere in between.
What I do struggle with, though, is connecting with heavily auto-tuned songs that only last around 2:30; typical current CHR radio music. Even in fully electronic music, I tend to look for some kind of human element beneath the surface.

··· LYRICS, ALBUMS
I prefer music over lyrics (that hasn't changed, even after exploring many more genres), and I tend to listen 'track-based'. Both are probably remains of my dance years. Dance music was - and often still is - released as singles rather than albums.
··· SOURCES
Sources I use to find music: preferably relatively old-fashioned, human curated ones. Internet radio, Mixcloud streams, music podcasts, discussion boards, reviews, homemade playlists on streaming services, etc.
··· SOCIALS/STREAMING SERVICES
I have profiles on many sites and services. A couple of them: Bluesky and MusicMeter (the Dutch version of 'Rate Your Music'). And Spotify was already mentioned before.
